UK boiler grants 2026

Two main UK schemes can substantially reduce or eliminate the cost of replacing your boiler in 2026: ECO4 (free or subsidised boiler for qualifying households) and the Boiler Upgrade Scheme (GBP 7,500 grant for a heat pump, not a gas boiler). Plus the Warm Home Discount and local authority schemes for additional support.

The two main schemes

Other support routes

Warm Home Discount

GBP 150 one-off discount on your winter electricity bill, applied by your energy supplier. Eligibility tied to Pension Credit Guarantee Credit (Core Group) or low income + high energy costs (Broader Group). Not a boiler grant but reduces overall heating cost burden. gov.uk/the-warm-home-discount-scheme

Local authority grants

Many UK local councils offer their own boiler / energy efficiency grants funded via Home Upgrade Grant (HUG2) or LADS (Local Authority Delivery Scheme). Eligibility varies by council; often means-tested. Find your local council at gov.uk/find-local-council.

Home Upgrade Grant (HUG2)

For off-gas-grid homes with energy bills over GBP 1,500 per year on EPC D-G with low income. Funded centrally by DESNZ and delivered by local authorities. Includes insulation + heat pump + low-carbon heating.

GBE-Help to Heat / Scotland equivalent

Devolved equivalents in Scotland (Home Energy Scotland Grant + Loan), Wales (Nest scheme), Northern Ireland (Affordable Warmth + Boiler Replacement Scheme). Each has its own eligibility rules; start at your devolved government's energy efficiency page.

Not grant-eligible? See finance options for 0% spread-cost routes from GBP 30/month.
